It was great to see some young horses doing their first tests-bodes well for Mercian and Area next year!

At the showing show we managed not to get too wet!and 2 teams took part—attached is Ruth’s report—she puts it so much better than me!

Our team at the combined training consisted of Carole Hodgetts, Judith Cox and Shelley Tillman who finished 6th as a team in a very close competition—the winning team had 378 points and Wyvern finished on 372—well done to you all.

We fielded an individual (Tor Briggs) in the Open Horse Trials and a team for the novice horse trials , Karen Richardson on Trish’s Scottie (Highland Brave) won their section and go to the championships at Offchurch next weekend—Good Luck Karen.

Karen and I both went to the Area Dressage to Music qualifier, Karen was 4th and Scruffy was 2nd in the novice open section which should mean that I go to the Addington championships in October.

We also had a team for the Area Open Dressage last weekend, consisting of Emily Douglas-Osborn, Karen Richardson, Carole Hodgetts and Scruffy! Everyone went well and we finished 8th out of 20 teams, Scruffy coming individual 2nd.
Yesterday we had our show jumping afternoon and much fun was had by all.

6th Dillon.

Class 4 2’9”
1st Michelle Weston (Hank)
2nd Ann Bull (Heby),
3rd Judith Cox (Dillon).

Fortunately we found some shade for the BBQ which was very welcome!

We have found an excellent venue for the trailer towing training so will get that going very soon, will circulate details of the Dressage to music demo with Sally Lidsey on August 26th—when you receive it, please print off and give to all your friends!—it should be a really good evening—Sally is a List 1 judge and has judged internationally.

The committee meets again this week so will be in touch very shortly with a late summer/autumn programme.
The next Mercian team competition is Show Jumping and Style Jumping at Button Oak, hosted by Bewdley Bridle Club. The going at Button Oak is usually excellent—please get in touch if you would like to be in a team—2’ 3” or 2’ 9” for both classes. Also put in your diaries the Mercian Dressage—it will soon be here—sun 21st September.

Will be in touch again very soon,

Regards, Sue.

Malvern Hills Showing Show 26th May 08

We were really pleased  we managed to have 2 teams for this first outing of the club at a Mercia event. Even though the forecast was pretty horrendous it stayed fairly dry until about midday.
We all managed to park close together and my sister (Sue) came along to give support and advise.
Sue Frank, on Hughie, and I were in the 1st class – Best Turned Out. Now anyone that knows us will know that this isn't exactly what we do. But you know 'for the club'. My horse, Baz, who was only 4 and this was his first show on an open field (that's my excuse over) got a little upset when the judge decided she would like to see us trot round the arena. Once the judge to pity on us she lined us up and started her bit. Checking how many plaits, was he clean, was his tack clean, picked his foot up and checked me over (yes I was clean). She moved down the line and then sent us out for a final check over. She started pulling us in, you could have knocked us off with a feather. Sue Frank was 3rd and I was 6th.
The next class was veteran where Joy Starkey on Bob and Ade Taylor on Ben were both riding in the 2nd ever show. The first being the evening show a few days previously. They both did really well, Joy was 6th and Ade was 8th
Then onto the Riding Club Horse. Shelley Tillman on Ebony Heights, did a lovely show and got moved up the line to 3rd (well done), Judith Cox did well and was placed 9th.
Finally the last Mercian class was Working Hunter where Carole Hodgetts on the Maverick did an outstanding job, as the weather had taken a turn for the worse by then. They were placed 3rd.
All the results were collated and the team placings were announced. We had team 4th and 6th. What a fantastic result.
